Impact & Importance of Regular Preventative Health Screenings

March 1, 2023

Regular Health Screenings are very important. To give you a better picture of your health, Hammond-Henry Hospital offers many types of preventative health screenings (many are free). All part of serving community healthcare needs by contributing to the quality of life and well-being of people living in the area. Health Screenings are key to a cost-effective continuum of preventive care and diagnostic services.

Mammograms

The American Cancer Society recommends mammograms for women starting at age 40. A Screening Mammogram plays a central role in early detection of breast cancers because it shows changes up to two years before a patient/healthcare provider can feel them. Screening Mammograms are used as a screening tool to detect early breast cancer for those experiencing no symptoms. Diagnostic Mammograms are used to detect and diagnose breast disease for those experiencing symptoms such a lump, pain or nipple discharge.

Time to test for Osteoporosis?

A common and concerning condition affecting seniors is osteoporosis. It’s a growing crisis since studies suggest that as many as one in three women and up to one in five men age 50+ will experience an osteoporotic fracture. Osteoporosis is diagnosed with a simple, yet effective test called a bone density scan - aka bone mineral (BMD) test. It measures your bone density or volume of calcium and minerals within bone tissue, helping to detect/predict/determine. Bone density scans are recommended if you are age 65+ regardless of known risk. Call 309-944-9135 to schedule your test.
