New HHH outbuilding to house medical students and physicians, garage bays, and extra storage

March 29, 2026

Hammond-Henry Hospital, located at 600 N. College Avenue in Geneseo, is constructing an outbuilding on the north side of the property in direct response to the need for temporary medical student and physician housing, garage bays, and additional storage.

“This construction is much needed and has been made possible in part by donations from the Geneseo Foundation, the Francis G. & Betty J. Miller Foundation, a gift from the Hammond-Henry Hospital Endowment, and the Jo Ann Parsons Memorial, with a combined total of over $142,000,” said Katie Orwig, Hammond-Henry Hospital Foundation Manager.

The benefits of this 40’ x 48’ building are threefold. Firstly, the building will have two studio apartments. These apartments will house medical students and physicians that are temporarily fulfilling an open shift. “For example, a locum physician may be covering an emergency department physician while on vacation,” said Orwig. “Currently, the hospital incurs hotel or rental costs for students and locum physicians. Adding these accommodations will be a cost savings.”

Secondly, there will be two garage bays available for hospital-owned vehicles to prolong their use. Harsh weather conditions and vandalism have left their mark on the hospital vehicles. Thirdly, the outbuilding will provide additional storage for various departments. “As large as the hospital is, storage is always in great demand,” said Orwig.
