Hammond-Henry Hospital Auxiliary Annual Meeting

Hammond-Henry Hospital Auxiliary held their Annual Meeting with the theme “Volunteers Bloom Where They are Planted” on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the First Lutheran Church in Geneseo.

President, Chris Ahlstrand of Geneseo opened the meeting with eighty-four members present.

During the business meeting Carol Johnson, Gift Shop chairman, presented $17,500 to the Auxiliary. These funds were raised by the Gift Shop volunteers this past year. Auxiliary members pledged a total of $44,323 to projects to benefit patients at HHH in 2019. Funds will be used to purchase items including: centrifuge for the lab, stirrup attachments for stretchers, ring cutter, and clinical chair for the Emergency Department, supplies and outings for residents for the activities department in Long Term Care, equipment for the rehab services department, and a pledge of $20,000 toward Emergency Department renovations.

This year, the Auxiliary will also contribute $20,000 in scholarships for local students in health careers.

Auxiliary officers for 2019 were installed as follows: President, Helen Akers of Geneseo; Vice President, Mary Bostwick, Cambridge; Secretary, Ellen Scranton of Geneseo and Treasurer, Patty Turner of Cambridge.

Other Auxiliary Board members for 2019 include: Community Education, Betty Minteer; Development, Tamara Gernant & Julie Riney; Gift Shop, Carol Johnson; Health Advocacy, Cheryl Radicic; Leadership, Deb Deener; Marketing, Mary Wachtel; Membership, Nancy Stover and Rhonda Zeien; Nominating, Penny Ford; Scholarship, Connie Paris; Sunshine/Scrapbook, Marcia Fleming; and Telephone, Lynne Sebastian and Julie Zwica. Chris Ahlstrand of Geneseo, Past President, will be the Auxiliary Representative to the HHH Hospital Board. Volunteers completing terms on the Auxiliary Board include: Sharon Bianchetta.

Auxiliary membership in this past year was noted at 242 members. Julie West, Volunteer and Auxiliary Manager reported 15,709 hours had been recorded by 223 adult and 63 teen volunteers during the past year. West expressed a huge thank you to the Auxiliary members and others for being an important part of this service to others.

Mark Kuhn, CEO of Hammond-Henry Hospital expressed his appreciation to the Auxilians and volunteers on behalf of the hospital. He also gave a progress report on the Emergency Department renovations which are slated to finish in the fall. He shared information about other hospital projects, including a new Annawan Clinic location which will provide more space and updated equipment.

The following Auxiliary members were recognized for the accumulated hours of volunteer time that they have donated to Hammond-Henry Hospital.   Award pins representing 50 hours of volunteer service were awarded to: Shirley Blankenfeld, Jeanne Carton, Carolyn Cattron, Faith DeDecker, Colleen Dodd, Kathi Fluck, Elain Humphrey, Carol Johnson, Judy Kuhn, Steve Morgan and LaVon Swanson.

Honorable Mention was noted for Dixie Wirth with 5422 hours.

Special Recognition was given to Virginia Humbert who received her 9000 hour award. Virginia has been involved with the Auxiliary since 1996 and was manager of the Gift Shop for 13 years, retiring from that in 2009.
