We saw lots of progress on both the long term care (LTC) building and the south service building (SSB). Today, workers are completing the installation of the LTC roof. With the installation of windows last week and temporary doors, the building will be virtually weather proof by the end of the week. Last week Russell Construction provided a "mock-up" of a double room, allowing staff to inspect the location of outlets, television brackets, overbed lights and bathroom fixtures. Several minor changes were made based upon these observations.
Installation of the metal studs has progressed well, giving a good layout of the future floor plan. Work will move even faster now with a controlled climate. Installation of plumbing in the SSB is nearly complete beneath the future first floor. The concrete floor will be poured next week. The exterior wallboard will be completed next week, allowing for temporary heat for the concrete pour. The second floor concrete will be poured next week as well. Plastic visqueen will keep the temperatures moderated on that floor. Exterior masonry work will begin in mid-December with temporary plastic visqueen and heat providing a good environment for masonry.
Work in the future endoscopy suite has slowed, pending the completion of a few minor casework changes. Once shop drawing are approved, work should move quickly. Completion of that area is now back to the original time period of the end of the calendar year.
This Thanksgiving, we are thankful for good weather and a good construction crew that works together very well!
